Do your researchJust like any interview or application, make sure you do as much research as possible before the first day of your internship.Many companies actually treat internships as a sort of elongated interview process. Don’t be the first one inAt least, not to start with.Punctuality is essential to your internship, but on your first day you should probably arrive five or ten minutes early. Once you’ve settled in, turning up before they do and after they leave can be a great way to show that you’re proactive but give it a few days first.3. Track your workload, track your targets and most importantly track your wins.CVs look best when they’re full of quantifiable accomplishments, so if you’re planning on using the internship as a springboard for a different position, knowing the facts and figures that you can include will always be beneficial.6 . Make some bold invitationsOnce you’ve spent some time at the company and bedded in, don’t be afraid to ask a few important people out for a coffee or lunch.Many senior managers will understand the importance of mentoring their intern intake, and by being proactive and flexible with your time, you might just get the opportunity to pick the brains of someone really knowledgeable about the industry.7. Statistics reveal that at least 1 in 4 employers use online search engines to check up on job applicants before they even make it to the interview process. The implication, for those seeking employment, is clear: What the search engines say about you could really be make-or-break for you on a professional level. The Google problem: Certainly, search listings pose plenty of opportunities for disaster. There was a time when, in order to keep your nose clean and your reputation in check, you mostly just had to keep your name out of the headlines, and your mug shot out of the local paper. Nowadays, there is never any telling what sorts of embarrassing content could turn up on Google, Yahoo, or Bing. Google delivers personalized search results, and if Google knows who you are, it may paint a rosy picture for you, not giving you an objective view of what’s really out there under your name. Another tip is to set up Google and Yahoo alertsâ€"easy ways to stay in the loop about new listings that appear. What  about social media? Social networksâ€"ranging from Facebook to Twitter to Pinterestâ€"post significant threats to your online reputation. That doesn’t necessarily mean that social networking should be avoided, but it does mean some precautions are in order. One vital concern is privacy settings. Keep these as stringent as you are able, because the very last thing you need, from a reputation standpoint, is for your account go get hacked and a bunch of embarrassing content to get passed around under your name. Second, consider keeping your professional and personal lives separate. Have a personal e-mail address that you associate with Facebook and Twitter, then a professional e-mail address that is only attached to LinkedIn. Obviously, this second account is the one you will want to use on job applications and on your resume. Building  your brand: At the end of the day, there is simply no way to prevent other people from posting negative or embarrassing content about you. What you can do is work to establish a strong, positive online reputation. By self-branding, and filling the Web with good, strong content about yourself, you’re effectively creating a strong defense that will keep negative listings at bay. Quick tips for building your personal, online brand: First, consider purchasing all of the exact-match domains associated with your name. For instance, if your name is Miranda Jeffries, get MirandaJeffries.com, MirandaJeffries.net, and so on. These sites will “rank” well in Google, helping keep any negative listings off the first page of search results. Use these domains to publish content about yourselfâ€"even if it’s something as simple as a resume. Have at least one or two social media accounts where you can publish positive contentâ€"again, an active social media account will “rank” well in the search engines. Consider joining any professional or academic directories for which you are eligible. These are good, solid Google listings that will portray you in a positive light. Ultimately, building your brand is the best way to keep others from manipulating the way you’re portrayed on the Web. What Is Love Bombing Love bombing is a rather common thing in new relationships and it is usually one of the things that seem very amazing at first while in reality, they are nothing else but manipulation afterward. Many people have experienced and seen love bombing signs in their relationship, but very little of them actually knew what it really means. Love bombing is often overlooked as a normal thing, while it is actually doing no good for you, your family and even your close friends. Love bombers tend to be very possessive and will do everything to keep you away from people who will openly talk to you about their thoughts and intentions. They constantly keep on giving you gifts. They will abuse the fact you love their affection and often make you feel miserable for not being able to be just like them. Upon realizing you are not giving them all of the attention they give to you, they get angry and sometimes even violent. You are having issues with your emotions, one day you are happy, another day you feel terrible.   Love bombers make you forget how to love yourself. Why do we easily fall for people who love bomb us?   It can be very hard not to fall for someone who makes you believe they are special and perfect for you. Narcissist love bombing is hard to notice right away, especially if love bombing is something they have been doing in the past too. Falling for someone who makes you feel unique, appreciated and someone who keeps on overloading you with love is a common thing, sadly, it is not a true kind of love with love bombers. It is extremely important to continue loving yourself even when your partner makes you want to love them more. You are required to love yourself before loving anyone else, if you cannot love yourself, you will feel bad and possibly never be able to give the love you wish to give to the right person. Love bombing prevents you from loving yourself and prevents you from doing things that make you happy. Instead, you will be looking for ways to return all of the ‘’love’’ that was given to you by a love bomber, and it will be so much that you will simply forget about your own well being.   How do we break free from a love bombing relationship? If you just recently got into a relationship with someone who seems to be love bombing you, take time to figure them out. Let them know you feel like everything is moving too quickly and talk about how you need time to set some boundaries. Love bombing narcissist will not like this type of conversation, they will do their best to make you change your mind, but please, never fall for it. It is in your best interest to cut the communication with people who wish to manipulate or control your life to the fullest. While you cannot change the behavior of a love bomber, nor it is your job to do so, but you can still decide for yourself and see whether or not they are good or bad for you.   What happens after you break free from a love bombing relationship? People who have been with love bombers, they usually struggle a lot after breaking up with them. Dating a love bomber, living and spending time with them can make you forget how beautiful it can be to be alone and have some time for yourself. After you break up with a love bomber, you will feel like you are stuck, you will have no idea how to feel validated again.   The reason for this is rather simple. You have been getting so much affection every single day that it became a regular thing for you and now that you are free and left alone, you no longer know how it is not to get all of that affection, even if that affection was very unhealthy for you and your emotional well-being. Upon breaking up with a love bomber, you are required to go through a process of learning how to love yourself all over again, how to feel worthy and validated without having someone to gift and overload you with fake feelings and emotions.   Imagine eating ice cream on a daily basis and then suddenly going on a sugar-free diet. No matter how lavish the onboarding experience, it doesn’t change this gnawing sentimentâ€"most companies in this day and age aren’t that loyal to their employees, so why should I be loyal to them?Corporate ladders have long since disappeared. In their place are flat organizations, offering much fewer opportunities to grow with the company. The only way to advance for many workers is through job hopping. LiveCareer’s recently released 2018 Job-Hopping Report examines the state of job hopping, right here and right now.But lets a step back first. There’s an even bigger quandary at hand, something economists call the dual consumer problem. The basic idea is that buyers and sellers each try to get the most value out of transacting with one another, and at the lowest cost. In the case of the job market, workers want the biggest compensation package they can get, while expending as few of their own resou rces as possible to do so. Likewise, employers want maximum productivity from their employees, while paying them as little as possible for that productivity.That creates a lot of tension on both sides. Employers want to retain good employees, and good employees want all the rewards of hard work and dedication to the employer. But what’s good for one side often isn’t good for the other. And right now, employers are the ones at a disadvantage. With record low unemployment and dozens of powerful job search apps now available, good employees are more likely than ever to job hop.Some HR software solutions are now trying to use algorithms to predict employee turnover. But by the time it identifies employees most at risk of leaving it’s probably too late. A savvy recruiter has already connected them with the hiring team of their new employer.Beginning (a new job) with the end already in mindIf the old saying “people join organizations but leave managers” is at least half-true, th en it follows that the stage for leaving their managers is already set by the conditions by which they joined the organization. Put another way, every employee joins already having some propensity to leave, but some are more inclined to job hop than others.LiveCareer’s report shows that employers and job seekers would do much better to address the likelihood when they first engage on the job market, not when telltale signs start showing up that the honeymoon is over.LiveCareer took a big data approach to learn more about what job seekers and employers bring to the table that might influence job hopping. We analyzed several thousands of resumes and job ads across 12 separate occupations, altogether making up one-quarter of all occupational categories.Natural Language Processing was used to analyze the actual language job seekers and employers use as they begin transacting with one another, and to determine whether this language was characterized more by mutual agreement or disagree ment.We then cross-referenced this data against publicly available databases covering the entire workforce to determine whether certain jobseeker characteristics indicated a higher likelihood of job hopping.We found that the three biggest influences on job hopping were a jobseeker’s education level, age, and occupation. More highly educated workers tend to job hop moreThe study found that job seekers holding only a high school degree stayed with their employers an average of 4.4 years before leaving. That’s almost 25 percent longer than job seekers with an associate’s degree (4.1 years), and 33 percent longer than those with a bachelor’s degree (3.3 years). Interestingly, job seekers who did not provid e their education level on their resumes also held their jobs on average of 3.3 years before leaving.But the effect seems to break down after that, as jobseekers with master’s degrees stayed an average of 3.7 years per job.2. Older workers tend to job hop less than younger workers, but only up to a point Overall, Baby Boomer-aged workers stayed with their employers an average of 8 years, followed by Generation X-aged (5.4 years), Millennial-aged (2.4 years), and Gen Z-aged (1.2 years). However, the study also confirmed that when controlling for career stage, the tendency to job hop is approximately equal for all ages of jobseekers.The researchers emphasized that while job-hopping diminishes with greater age and career maturity, education and certification are more reliable indicators of job-hopping propensity.3. Occupation mattersThe study found that the overall average job duration across all 12 occupations was 3.8 years per job. Software developers and food/beverage servers were the two occupations with the most job hopping (average of only 2.4 and 2.8 years on the job respectively), while store managers and administrative assistants were the two with the least (4.9 and 4.7 years per job respectively).Overall, the study suggested that workers tend to stay longer in roles requiring more employer-specific knowledge, and where it takes longer time to become proficient.4. Be cool about your schoolThe study concluded with some advice for job seekers: be careful about how you present your educational background in situations where it could signal to employers that you won’t stay long.A solid education buys options and mobility, which if played right can signal that you are very competitive in the job market. But for occupations with high rates of job hopping, it can easily make you look overqualified, or likely to outgrow the role quickly.For roles where job skills transfer relatively easily, you might not even need the degree or certificate. The study found m any employers place far less weight on credentials when hiring for roles where employees don’t stay long. Career Advice Have a balanced, optimistic attitude Im always telling my career coaching clients to have a positive attitude in their career path. That is why this article in Time Magazine caught my eye, The Science of optimism. You have to remain optimistic and look out for opportunities in order to keep your career in shape. This is a great article that shows how being positive can help you, but sometimes it can also hinder you. Ive experienced both sides of this equation myself. Sometimes I am too realistic or narrow-minded to be as open to possibilities as I should be. There are other times where I am much more optimistic, which causes me to be blinded by the realities I need to acknowledge. Erring on the side of optimism does help, as long as you stay balanced.
